Reporting directly to the Interpreting Program Manager, the Staff ASL Interpreter is responsible for providing clear and accurate ASL/English interpreting for a variety of clientele, including Federal Government contracts, educational settings, and medical settings. Assignments vary from on-call assignments, training, platform interpreting, Video Remote Interpreting, and one-on-one/small group meetings. Additional responsibilities include attending staff meetings and promotional events and conferences.
Essential Functions:

Performs effective sign language interpreting and translating services for clients in a variety of settings according to accepted American Sign Language/English interpreting procedures.

Act as a lead interpreter when teaming with other interpreters providing prep and support to those interpreters.

Demonstrates full compliance with LCO's standards and policies and the RID Code of Professional Conduct including maintaining the highest level of confidentiality at all times.

Maintains accurate records and contact log for signing services.

Enhances interpreting skills through continued education training. Non-Essential/Additional Duties

Performs special assignments, projects, and other duties that align with the mission and vision of the company.
Requirements-Qualifications:

Current RID National Certification including compliance with any national, state, or local licensure and/or certification requirements.

Capabilities of computer systems, equipment, and software used in providing interpreting services for the Deaf.

Skill in Conveying the sophisticated thought, intent, and spirit of a Deaf/hard of hearing or hearing speaker to a target audience with superior accuracy, tact, cultural and linguistic integrity.

Job Title: ASL Consultant
Description:
- Bachelor's degree and + years of professional experience working as a certified Sign Language Interpreter in a variety of professional and business settings.
- Current RID National Certification including compliance with any national, state, or local licensure and/or certification requirements.
- Must have reliable transportation to travel between different work sites.
- Must possess and maintain national certification. Failure to maintain national certification will result in disqualification for this position.
Requirements:
- Develop and maintain mentorship programs for newly added interpreters.
- Provide support to the Court Interpreter Program and courts in staffing assignments.
- Conduct site visits to ensure compliance.
- Present effectively for various audiences, including but not limited to executive leadership and the client.
- Present workshops to raise awareness about the hard-of-hearing community and its communication needs.
- Conduct onsite evaluation of Registry American Sign Language (ASL) and Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) or vendor interpreters.
- Develop a robust program to recruit American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters certified by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) to serve as court-appointed interpreters and other required ASL positions.
- Create a customized sign language interpreter training with a focus on legal settings. The training must be reviewed and approved by the Contract Manager. The training shall consist of the following topics: Ethics/ Protocol/ ASL related topics...
- Identify strategies to attract and retain the American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter community.
- Research, analyze, and provide solutions to critical challenges based on expert knowledge and experience.
- Establish relationships with ASL agencies to utilize their services when Registry American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters are not available.
